'Good Girls' Steals Top Spot on Nielsen Streaming Charts

The third season of the NBC series made its Netflix debut on Feb. 16.

Three weeks before its fourth season premiered on NBC, Good Girls became the most watched show on Netflix in the United States.

That's according to Nielsen's streaming rankings for the week of Feb. 15-21, during which U.S. Netflix viewers watched nearly 1.08 billion minutes of the drama starring Christina Hendricks, Retta and Mae Whitman. The show's third season made its Netflix debut on Feb. 16.

The big Netflix numbers for Good Girls aren't a huge surprise: As The Hollywood Reporter has noted, while the series draws modest on-air viewership, delayed viewing and in-season streaming on Hulu and NBC's digital platforms helped the show more than double its initial audience last year. (In fact, NBC says that measuring 35 days of ratings across platforms, season three was Good Girls' best to date among adults 18-49.)

The four most streamed titles for Feb. 15-21 were all acquired shows, with Grey's Anatomy, Criminal Minds and iCarly following Good Girls.

Among original shows, Netflix's Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel (806 million minutes) edged Firefly Lane (780 million minutes) for the top spot, in a reversal of the previous week. WandaVision continued its upward trajectory for Disney+, with users watching 720 million minutes of the series the week of its seventh episode debuting (up from 596 million the week before).

Netflix's I Care a Lot was far and away the most watched movie of the week: Its 790 million minutes of viewing time (equivalent to about 6.7 million complete showings of the 118-minute film) more than tripled the second-place finisher, Flora & Ulysses (238 million) on Disney+. Oscar contender Nomadland also made the top 10 for its opening weekend on Hulu. It racked up 139 million minutes of watch time, or about 1.26 million full runs of the film.

Streaming platforms contend Nielsen's methodology doesn't capture the full scope of viewing on devices other than TV sets. Nielsen also only measures U.S. audiences, not those in other countries, and currently only includes Amazon, Disney+, Hulu and Netflix in its rankings.
